Experienced and professional educators

Our teachers are native and multilingual speakers with extensive experience living, attending school, and working outside of the US. Our academic team members are experts in early childhood education and language acquisition.
All full-time staff is First Aid and CPR trained.

Katia Edrenkina

Raising two trilingual children in San Antonio inspired Katia to found ISSA as a support for other parents raising multilingual children. She calls San Antonio home but living on three continents taught Katia the importance of breaking language barriers. Katia holds a Master’s degree in finance from Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation and a Master’s degree in nonprofit leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. She brings 15+ years of business and entrepreneurial experience to ISSA.
Prior to founding ISSA, Katia served as Vice President of Customer Success for Rallyware, a SaaS company. She was Manager of Sustainability and Corporate Citizenship for Samsung Electronics America. While working in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility, she developed an award-winning environmental stewardship program for children across the United States.

Mary Field

Our Head of Academics, Mary Field, holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University. Her thesis was focused on language learning in a dual-language Chinese kindergarten. She holds certification from the Chinese Ministry in Education (Hanban) in Mandarin Chinese. She also holds certificates of study from the Chinese University of Political Science and Law in Beijing, the Southwest University for Nationalities in Chengdu, and Soochow University in Suzhou. She earned her BA from Fordham University in New York. Prior to joining ISSA, Mary taught in an IB-accredited kindergarten in China and developed other Chinese immersion programs in Austin and San Antonio. Having spent 7 years living in different cities of China—including San Antonio’s sister city of Suzhou, Mary brings a rich understanding of Chinese culture to ISSA.

Nabila Fouchal

Our French lead teacher Nabila holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Didactic of French and Languages from the Sorbonne University in France, and a Bachelor’s degree in French from Mouloud Mammeri University in Algeria.
Nabila started her teaching career as an intern at Sorbonne University, where she taught the DULF Program (Diplome Universitaire de Langue Francaise) for International Students. She then taught Arabic and French for Children and Adults until she moved to Texas in 2015. Prior to joining ISSA, she worked at Education Française and Alliance Française of Austin.

Fenge Liu

Our Mandarin Chinese preschool teacher Fenge Liu has extensive experience and knowledge in instruction. Her teaching career started as a business trainer at Dawu Real Estate CO. LTD in China in 2002. Her first classroom teaching experience in the United States was at the Vineyard Ranch Elementary School in 2017. Later she worked as a language instructor at the Confucius Mandarin Institute at UTSA and other public and private schools in San Antonio. She holds a Bachelor of Economics from the Beijing Wuzi University, Beijing, China.

Danica Guerrero

Danica teaches French immersion weekend classes and camps. She has been teaching French as a second language for 6 years, and to adults in the last year through the Alliance Française of San Antonio. She spent 7 months abroad in Annecy, France as a teaching assistant and holds an EC-12 teacher certification (early childhood through grade 12) in French. Her devotion to the profession and commitment to student learning are immediately evident in all she does.

Jonathan Chapman

Adding to our French speaker count on the team is Jonathan. Jonathan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in French and History from the Trinity University. He’s been learning French since kindergarten and experienced French immersion environment firsthand. In 2019, he spent a semester in Strasbourg, France, studying French history with the Syracuse University. 

Muge Wang

Originally from Harbin, China, Muge has been an accomplished international student in San Antonio since 2013. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary School Education and a Master’s Degree in Teaching English as Second Language from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Muge has been teaching Mandarin Chinese for over a year to children of various ages, including to children 3-5 years old at First Chinese Baptist Church. She enjoys being around young children as well as practicing and performing Chinese Tai Chi.

Pattie Davis

President and CEO, Mount St Mary Academy and Foundation

Pattie lends us her wealth of knowledge and experience as a teacher, principal, and administrator. She received a PhD in education with a focus on international education and entrepreneurship from the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio. She earned her master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2004, as well as her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1995.

Judy McCarter

Public Relations & Communications

Judy’s communication background is extensive. She has more than 30 years of experience in corporate and agency public relations, and she also has served in market research, advertising, corporate marketing, and communication roles in multiple organizations. 

Jason Straughan

Chief Executive Officer, Codeup

Codeup is a San Antonio-based career accelerator that uses an immersive approach in training software development to students with little to no prior programming experience. Jason serves as CEO and is also on the Board of Directors and  Executive Committee of Tech Bloc. He has invested in local startups, founded several companies, and is an active member of Vistage, an international speaker, a TechStars Mentor, and published author. 

Christy Schumann

Vice President of Operations, Toptal

Christy is a global business operations and strategy leader, with more than 10 years of experience in management consulting and P&L ownership. Her rigorous academic background includes a B.S. from MIT and an MBA from Columbia Business School. She helps ISSA to improve its operational performance to ensure a sustainable financial future.

DESCRIPTION DU POSTE

Notre enseignant(e) de français organise des activités et des expériences pédagogiques appropriées aux enfants, dans un environnement d’immersion dans la langue française. L’enseignant(e) les aide à réaliser leur potentiel de croissance intellectuelle, émotionnelle, physique, et sociale. Il/Elle permet à ses élèves de développer l’aptitude et les compétences nécessaires à leur socialisation.

RESPONSABILITIÉS

Les responsabilités de base comprennent:

  • Préparer par écrit et dispenser des cours conformes aux programmes de l’École. Pouvoir fournir un justificatif de ces préparations à toute réquisition.
  • Tenir compte dans la préparation des leçons de diverses méthodes d’apprentissage des élèves.
  • Planifier et employer les stratégies d’enseignement et d’apprentissage, les activités, le matériel et l’équipement appropriés, qui démontrent la compréhension des méthodes d’apprentissage et des besoins des élèves.
  • Évaluer les méthodes d’apprentissage des élèves et utiliser les résultats pour planifier les activités pédagogiques.
  • Toutes autres tâches éventuelles.
QUALIFICATIONS RECHERCHÉES

Études & Expérience Professionnelle:

  • Licence d’une université agréée
  • Un Master FLE serait un plus
  • Formation à l’enseignement au préscolaire
  • Deux ans d’expérience dans l’enseignement d’une population diverse d’enfants âgés de 2 à 5 ans.

Connaissances et Compétences particulières:

  • Maîtrise du français qui doit être la langue maternelle du postulant/de la postulante.
  • Expérience dans la planification et la mise en œuvre d’un programme d’études adapté au développement des enfants
  • Capacité à enseigner les étudiants et à gérer leur comportement
  • De grandes compétences en matière d’organisation, de communication et de relations humaines
  • Une expérience précédente en pédagogie active et centrée sur l’étudiant serait un avantage.
  • Avoir une apparence et une attitude professionnelles
  • Avoir l’esprit d’équipe et être flexible pour pouvoir s’adapter à tout changement
